This big ornate Chinese ring was made for export in the 1920s. It's made of silver (tests for sterling) with a gold wash.
The star of the ring is the gorgeous hand-carved plaque of jade. It's natural jade in a Jadeite color that's highly treasured for its subtle nuances. This is a large piece of jade measuring 15mm across by 35mm high. It's carved with Chinese symbols of good fortune. It's pierced, indicating it was made for ornamentation.
The silver setting is hand-crafted with ornate curled silver wire work and raised silver beads. The sides of the ring are intricate filigree with overlays of silver wire flowers.
The ring band is adjustable (as shown, it's about 9). The entire ring top measures 3/4 inch across by 1 5/8 inches high knuckle to knuckle (20mm by 42mm). The ring weighs 15.6 grams. The inside is marked SILVER.
The only flaw we see is a tiny gap at the end of the side filigree (photo 3) and slight loss to the gilt. The jade is perfect with no chips or cracks. The ring retains its aged patina which many collectors prefer. A professional jeweler can steam clean this to a brighter silver. Overall, this unusual jade ring is in excellent vintage condition...nearly 100 years old and still magnificent.
