It was in 1924 England that Thomas Mott exhibited at the 1924 Great Empire Exhibition and catapulted the art of reverse painting with Butterfly Wing to a fashion craze of fun yet elegant jewelry.
This vintage butterfly wing bracelet is from the 1920s/1930s and it's a great example of the unique artistry of this jewelry.
There are six links...each a tropical scene with an electric blue/purple background that's made of genuine butterfly wing. A silhouette scene is reverse-painted on the glass. Palm trees, sailboat, a lighthouse, lakes, a house...idyllic scenery link together into this beautiful bracelet. The setting is silver-tone metal.
It measures 7 3/4 inches long by 3/4 inch wide. There's a secure spring ring closure.
Butterfly wing jewelry was generally sold in tropical resorts. Bracelets are rarer to find. This one is in excellent vintage condition.
