It's either a horse, a donkey, a mule, an ass, or a burro...depending on your interpretation of this gallant effort by the mystery artist named JOEZ.
This vintage folk art painting has great charm. It's painted with bold strokes, thickly applied in some places and even gilded on the animal's 'coat'.
The painting is on mason board. It's 8 by 10 for the art and with the wood frame, it's 11 1/4 by 9 1/4 inches. The frame is painted black with a white edge that leaves an artistic gap at each corner.
We think this folk art painting is Mexican but it's hard to be sure. Circa 1950s. A horse?
