What a splendid sterling silver calling card case (often used for stamps too). This one is from Birmingham England with a date hallmark for 1853.
The case is solid silver with a flip-up lid. The style is slim and curved (for a pocket) and the surface is patterned in a herringbone-like design.
The case measures 3 3/8 inches across by 1 5/8 inches high. It's about 1/4 inch thick. It weighs 40.5 grams.
The hallmarks include the Birmingham city mark, English Lion passant, date mark E, and the maker's mark which is not fully legible.
Case is in excellent antique condition. No monograms. No dings, dents or repairs. Good hinge. Can be polished up more to suit buyer's preference.
