This vintage French sculpture is a figurine cast in bronze by 19th century sculptor Adrien Etienne Gaudez (1845 - 1902).
The statue is titled DEFENSE DU FOYER on a metal name plaque along the front of the base. The back is incised MADE IN FRANCE. The base of the statue (between his feet) is also signed A. GAUDEZ.
The warrior wears an animal skin and has his sword at the ready. The statue is just a bit over 7 inches high. The base is 3 1/8 inches across.
It weighs about 2 1/2 pounds.
The aged patina has a greenish hue. It shows up details very well and this patina was popular in England and France in the 19th century. The inside at bottom shows some foundry casting numbers...looks like 2155 or JJ. The base is also bronze.
This is an older casting, circa mid-century or earlier. This is NOT one of the more recent versions which shows this warrior with a six-pack of abs that Gaudez never gave him.
Excellent vintage condition. A beautiful piece of bronze décor. Free domestic shipping is included in the price.
