Those Victorian sewing ladies thought of everything. Even a spool of thread was treated to a beautiful box for safekeeping and decorative purposes.
This early curved box was made by CLARK & CO. ANCHOR SEWING COTTONS - 'The best for hand & machine use'. There are advertising labels inside the lid and at bottom.
The box measures 2 1/4 inches across the base by 4 1/4 inches high. The box has a black turned wood top and the rest is either stenciled or hand-painted over wood. It's a beautiful design that has the look of marquetry.
There are two holes at side...presumably for two spools of thread. A couple of very minor nicks but overall, this is in excellent antique condition. It's a very fine and unique piece for a sewing or box collector. Circa 1890s. Free domestic shipping is included in the price.
