Can you believe this necklace? It's a Modernist masterpiece of hand-cut segments of genuine Baltic amber in egg yolk and various butterscotch colors. The segments are laminated together into beads that are approximately 20mm wide.
Each bead reflects the myriad range of amber. Some parts are solid...others are translucent. Some have chip inclusions inside. The segments come together like perfect puzzle balls. It's hard to imagine the time and exacting craftsmanship it took to put these beads together.
The necklace measures 18 inches long. The closure is a large sterling silver (marked 925) lobster claw that clasps securely with a sterling tube bead at each side. The necklace weighs 79.5 grams. It's in excellent vintage condition. Circa 1960s.
If you like amber, this is one you should not miss. (We sent these photos to a jewelry designer friend of ours who specialized in Baltic amber for many years and she said she had never seen one like this before, also commenting on the extraordinary amount of work involved.)
