This is an interesting 1920s Art Deco pendant. It's made of French ivory (celluloid) which has been carved with the figure of a man?...or is it a woman? We can't tell for sure.

The androgynous figure has long hair and is muscular. There's a sword behind the right hip. The person is standing under a bower of flowers and vines. The one-shoulder 'dress' bares a pectoral muscle...or a breast.

The pendant measures 1 1/2 inches across by 2 5/8 inches high. The back shows vertical parallel lines common to French ivory celluloid. The pendant hangs from a beautiful twisting 14K gold-filled chain with a secure spring ring clasp. The chain measures 20 inches around. This pendant necklace is in excellent vintage condition with no notable flaws. It's very unusual.
