How sweet it is, delivering a few good pinches of salt right to your fingertips. Or so it was intended.
This antique Victorian open salt is made of sterling silver in a ribbed design. Shaped like a boat, the salt has two handles with graceful Art Nouveau curves.
One side has Birmingham England hallmarks just under the outer edge. They include W-D (the maker), the lion passant (for sterling), the date mark (1898) and the anchor (for Birmingham).
The salt boat measures 3 1/4 inches across the handles by 1 1/4 inches high to handle top. The salt is 1 3/8 inches across in width. Miniscule dings at lower edge (seen from the bottom) and not fully polished but overall, this antique salt is worth its weight in salt. A fine little English silver collectible.
