These early 1900s Carmen bracelets are enchanting, with their ornate expansion ~S~ shaped links (alternating between smooth and repousse)and the bright etched tops that allow you to put a sweetheart's name or initials. This old beauty has a heart shaped top with two entwined hearts that are blank...no monogram as they usually have...so you can add your own.
Made in heavy gold-plate, this bracelet is for a teen or a small wristed woman. Though there's a lot of stretch in the expanding band, you don't want to overstretch the links. Up to a 5 1/2 inch wrist should be fine.
The heart top measures 3/4 inches across by 3/4 inch wide.
The bracelet has several markings inside...THE D.F.B. CO. (of Attleboro, Mass.), CARMEN - MADE IN U.S.A. and '3X9' (not sure what that means).
Parts of the expansion band have relaxed over the years but most of the 'spring' is still springy.
The gold-tone patina is still bright. The bracelet shows minimal signs of age/surface wear but no notable flaws to mention. Overall, it's as good as can be for a true 'golden oldie'. Do you know a 'sweetheart' with a small wrist?
