Some call it a moose. Some call it an elk. They both have a large rack of antlers as depicted in this old, hand-carved pin.
The pin is made of horn and the carving is very fine and detailed. The elk is carved through the opening, surrounded by flora. It's pretty amazing when you think of how many little cuts and whittles it took to get this realistic scene.
The pin measures 2 1/8 by 2 inches. The back has the original two-piece imbedded ~C~ clasp with the old extended pin head. This pin is from the early 1900s and came from Germany where whittling is an art form. Excellent vintage condition.
