We were sure this Modernist flower pin was gold when we first saw it. The color, design, and patina were all just right. And a sprinkle of little blue 'sapphires' added to its credibility.
Well on closer look, the 'sapphires' are little blue crystals. And the gold is actually a layer of fine gold vermeil on solid sterling silver. Not bad at all.
This pin measures 1 3/4 inches across by 3 inches high. It weighs 14.2 grams. Back has a secure rollover clasp.
The hand-sculpted leaves and stems are etched to a minimum. The trios of blue stones are all in precise sync. Those who like the simplicity of Modernist design will appreciate the crafting of this pin. It's marked STERLING on a raised plaque on the back. Light age appropriate wear but the vermeil is strong and the silver underneath does not show through. Excellent vintage condition. Circa 1960s.
