This rare Black Americana Dancing Boxers Darkies toy was made in 1915 by the National Toy Company in Boston, Mass. (USA). These phonograph toys were placed on any Victrola or Columbia Record Player over the center pin of the machine on a little platform. As the record played, the boxers would dance around and throw punches and kicks at each other. These early mechanical toys were powered by the rotating record.
These boxers are hand-painted on wood. They're attached to the spindle that goes into the machine. If you don't have a machine, these are still a valuable Black Americana / Boxing toy that can be displayed.
The toy measures 3 1/2 inches across by 9 inches high. Slight paint loss on one leg but overall, these are in remarkably good condition. (If you want to see how this works, there's a good demonstration on YouTube.)
