In 1922, Rainbow was created for young women whose fathers were members of the Masonic Lodge and their friends. Their main focus was on the spiritual principles of being a kind and caring person...the basic teachings of faith, hope, and charity and community service.
This vintage Rainbow gavel pendant necklace represents the meetings where members learned meeting protocol and parliamentary procedure.
The gavel hammer is made of red Bakelite. The brass handle is marked RAINBOW on each side. The gavel measures 1 1/2 inches long by 5/8 inch wide at the Bakelite hammer. The original gold-tone chain measures 17 inches and ends in a secure gold-plated clasp.
Condition is excellent. Circa 1930s.
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls still exists with 850 assemblies across the world that have bimonthly meetings. A gavel pendant like this comes in handy for a little meeting.
