This old Victorian baby rattle was much loved and played with. Though it's lost some of its original shape with the dings of being tossed out of the crib, this rattle has not lost any of its ornate charm and beauty.
Made in Spain, this silver rattle has an openwork floral revolving ball at one end with two 'bells' inside that clank together and make a sound any baby (big or small) would love. The fluted column handle has a decorative open end. The side of the handle is marked E.L. SPAIN.
The rattle measures 5 3/8 inches long. It's 2 inches at the widest. It weighs 34 grams. We acid tested this and it comes up silver...900 to 925. We've left the old patina as found but this could be polished up. As stated, the filigree ball is out of round but this unusual old Victorian rattle still makes plenty of sound.
