This is quite the nutcracker. It's a rare old 19th century solid brass figural Victorian piece featuring a double-sided nude cherub. Each cherub is holding up an ornate shield that leads to the hinge at the top. Opened up, you can see the backs of the cherubs...the detail goes all the way around.
The nutcracker is hefty in the hand and has acquired a wonderful patina over the decades.
The bottom of the nutcracker tapers down and gets even more intricate from every side.
There's a negligible bit of 'wobble' but it seems normal for an opener this old and the hinge is solidly intact. It opens and closes nicely, waiting to crack its next nut which fits into the two domed grooves with a cross-hatch design.
The nutcracker measures 6 3/8 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide. It's in excellent antique condition.
