We've had a few of these hand carved Bakelite roses over the years but never one so big and intricately carved. This butterscotch beauty measures 2 inches across and it's about 1 1/4 inches deep.
It hangs from a very complimentary chain of marbled butterscotch colored beads with gold-tone spacers. The beads don't test for Bakelite but are either ceramic, glass or stone. The clasp is a secure slide-in tube.
The chain measures 23 inches around with the rose pendant hanging 2 inches long. The back of the rose looks like it had once had pin back fittings but someone obviously liked it better as a pendant and removed the pin which can be replaced. There's one edge nick to a lower petal that doesn't show when worn. This necklace is in overall excellent vintage condition. The rose is circa 1940.
