This old Art Deco era rhinestone ring comes with some provenance. But first, we want you to know that this is no ordinary bit of costume jewelry puffery. This ring is more than just a sparkling rhinestone ring to adorn your finger. It was also made to serve as a fragrance delivery system.
Yes, indeed. Behind those green, clear, and big red rhinestones lies a little wad of cotton in an opening behind the ring top. That's where you would dab your favorite fragrance, head off to the cocktail party or ball or jazz club, and proceed to intoxicate anyone within ten feet of you into total submission. The delicious waft from your secret scent ring could give a woman some powerful allure.
The ring is made of silver-tone metal that's probably rhodium plated as it hasn't tarnished in over 75 years. The stones are all still bright and intact. The ring size is 7.5. The ring top measures 5/8 inch across. The ring is not marked. We always believed it to be Czech. And here's the provenance....
In our humble beginnings (1969), we bought out the leftover stock of a jewelry store in Queens, N.Y. The couple had owned it for 40+ years. They had bought it from previous owners who'd opened the store in the late 1800s. Among the old store stock was this ring. A great majority of their stock was from Czechoslovakia and other European countries. We sold most of it back in our old NYC store days but some things still remained in our warehouse cartons. So this ring is original 1930s stock, never used, and in excellent vintage condition. All it needs is a dab of your favorite fragrance.
