Vendome was a top-of-the-line innovative costume jewelry company, first owned by Coro and then on their own (1944 - 1979).
This vintage Vendome pendant necklace is from a Chinese-inspired Ming series of jewelry, circa 1950s. The classic Asian design features a large piece of carved faux jade set in a gold-tone frame resembling Chinese characters.
The beautiful shades of the faux green jade includes a Chinese message of good luck and fortune in the center. This piece is made with such attention to detail that you would have to look closely to see that it's costume jewelry and not something from the Imperial Palace.
The pendant measures 2 3/4 by 3 1/2 inches. The chain measures 28 inches around. Though it's not original to the pendant, someone liked this pendant enough to put a fine gold-filled chain on it (marked 1/20 12K). The spring ring clasp is marked 585 for 14K gold. So this necklace has an upgrade chain which will not tarnish and is as fine as the pendant looks. Signed VENDOME. Excellent vintage condition.
