Something very grand must have happened in Chicago on January 27, 1878 because this pin was made to commemorate the occasion.
Made of genuine U.S. silver coins, this 1878 Victorian era pin is hand-etched with Masonic symbols, fancy lettering, and on the bottom...the coin (a dime) has crossed spoons and the date (we can't make out the top word beginning with 'K'). Must have been a big dinner gala.
The back has the original old ~C~ clasp hinge pin with extended point. The pin measures 2 3/8 by 1 3/4 inches. It tests for sterling silver. This 137 year pin is in very good condition. Early Freemasonry souvenir.
