Leave it to Miriam Haskell to take the symbol of Christianity and make it even more special than it already is.
Fantastic!...that's the word for this large cross with a gilded stamped brass form and topped with beautiful Venetian art glass beads. They're black with imbedded bits of colorful glass canes.
The cross measures 2 1/2 inches across by 3 1/4 inches high (not including the bail which adds another 1/2 inch).
And then there's that brass chain. It's a work of art all by itself. Big wide oval links are embossed with floral scroll work. The chain measures 25 inches around by 1/2 inch wide. The large spring ring clasp is marked GERMANY. Many of Haskell's pieces used brass stampings from Germany.
The back of the cross has the signature MIRIAM HASKELL oval plaque. This piece was made circa late 1940s/early 1950s. There are a few tiny surface nicks to the bottom bead of the cross though we only noticed it through a magnifier. Overall, this piece is in excellent vintage condition. It's a very special Haskell piece in every way.
