This very early Victorian pin features European cut Bohemian garnets set in a gilded silver-tone metal.
The back of the pin indicates that this was constructed of five separate sections that were fused and soldered into this unusual tri-part shape. It almost looks like a butterfly but is more likely a floral with an overlay piece and an added pistil garnet in the center. The stones are prong set...one may be a reset or replacement though it's only noticed with strong magnification.
The pin measures 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 inches. The back has a ~C~ closure that seems to be holding well. Based on the estate we got this from, we believe this pin is from the mid-1800s. It's in very good antique condition. The birthstone for January is garnets and this is a beautiful antique display of them.
