Nettie Rosenstein (1890 - 1980) was an award-winning New York based fashion designer between circa 1913 and 1975. She was famous for her little black dresses and divine costume jewelry.
This vintage Nettie pin is one of her delightful pieces, made of sterling silver with a gold vermeil. It's a star, like Nettie herself. She obviously felt her clients deserved to be and wear a star too.
The pin measures 2.5 inches across and the same high. The open design features a center mound of pave set clear rhinestones. More rhinestones band the star's sides together. The pin weighs 18.7 grams.
The back is marked STERLING - NETTIE ROSENSTEIN. The only issue is common to old sterling pins with gold vermeil...there's wear to the vermeil. Given the rarity of Nettie Rosenstein's work and this pin in particular, this is a real trophy for the designer jewelry collector. The rollover clasp works securely and the stones are all intact. Excellent vintage condition.
