What a beautiful way to keep someone close to your heart. This early Victorian pin is made of solid 14K yellow gold with crossed terminals of seed pearls on a raised cusped shield. The edges have gold beads.
The underlying 'secret' is on the back of the pin...a large round glass window for a photo of your favorite person. It's lined in blue satin and is easily accessible by removing the ring around the glass. This would seem to have been a likely Civil War era piece of jewelry...a place to keep a picture of your sweetheart soldier.
The pin is large, measuring 2 inches across. It weighs 20 grams. The back has the original ~C~ clasp with a slide-on guard. There are a couple of negligible dings on the back edge and one little bump at the front edge. One pearl is darkened but they're all intact.
This unique antique brooch is circa 1860s in overall very good condition. It must have been a comfort to know that your loved one was always with you... and it still works as well today.
