If you're a fan of ethnic handmade jewelry, this gorgeous hefty vintage necklace will make your day.
It's made of handmade silver beads, hammered into various shapes and sizes. They alternate up the chain for a textured look and the chain doubles up for a good portion of the way. A few beads of orange coral add just the right amount of color.
Then there's that hefty ring in the center. It's solid sterling silver (as are the beads) and it has a notched groove at the bottom. This ring represents an enso. An enso circle symbolizes enlightenment, strength, elegance, the Universe and mu (the void). In Japanese Zen Buddhism, an enso is a minimalist circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create. The enso is also called the Circle of Enlightenment and the Infinity Circle.
The necklace measures 20 inches around. The enso pendant is 1 inch across. The necklace weighs a very impressive 68.5 grams. This necklace is not marked but we have acid-tested it in several places and it comes up sterling silver all over. This is a vintage estate piece that was packed away so that it never tarnished. It's very special in both its hand-crafted nuanced perfection and its bigger symbolic meanings.
