When we first saw this old cup, we were sure it was sterling. This old small tankard has such a nice primitive handmade quality, it seemed fitting. It turns out to be silver-plated with all the crafted charm still there. There's an embossed foliate design around the sides and wide bands puffing out.
The cup measures 3 inches high to the edge and 3 3/4 inches high to the little bird perched on the handle. The bottom is 2 inches across. There are some normal age-related surface scuffs but no dings or dents. We haven't polished it.
There are no markings on the cup. We know it's an old estate piece. We know it's unusual. We know it's a good little mug. A little birdie told us so.
