This large exquisite hand-painted bowl is by L.S. & S. Limoges France. It features a sleepy-eyed Asian woman with four sticks in her hair, wearing a lovely silk robe. The inner circle that surrounds her is a lacy pattern of gold.
The porcelain bowl measures 9 5/8 inches across by about 1 7/8 inches high. The edge is scalloped around and trimmed in gilt.
This bowl features the L. S. & S. Limoges France backstamp for Lewis Straus & Sons Limoges, France. The bowl also features a backstamp Star mark with the word LIMOGES inside the star and the word FRANCE underneath. This is the mark for the L & E Cioffee factory who apparently made the blank porcelain which was then painted by Straus. Both of these companies were in operation from the latter 1800s through the 1920s.
The bowl shows no chips, cracks, paint loss or other notable flaws. It's in excellent condition.
