'A thing of beauty is a joy for ever'...Keats' words come to mind when we look at this exquisite French Art Nouveau brooch in 18K yellow gold with rose cut diamonds.
The gold brooch has a threesome of flowing curvy shapes with detailed flowers suspended in the openwork design. In the center is a fine round rose cut diamond, approximately .25 ct. A ring of tiny rose cut diamonds surrounds the center stone.
The pin is made so that it can also be worn as a pendant. The top has two raised points for attaching a chain.
There are several French hallmarks...three are along the pin shaft, and on the back there's a French maker's mark in a diamond-shape, and the letters 'M.D.' which we think are the designer's initials. Except for the latter mark, these are very hard to make out but they are all French hallmarks.
The pin measures 1 5/8 inches across by 1 1/2 inches high which includes the dangling rose cut diamond with genuine pearl dangle. The pin weighs 7.5 grams. The back has a very secure tube closure.
This brooch is in very fine condition. A professional cleaning might bring out even greater brilliance. French - Circa 1900.
