Don't mess with stern-faced little Pearl Stevens. She's a no-nonsense baby in this Victorian portrait, posed for circa 1880 in her Sunday finery.
Pearl looks far beyond her tender years. She sits in the chair with a Queen-like confidence. She wears two rings on her left hand, high-button shoes with turned-in toes, and a white frock with not one, but TWO brooches.
The cardboard mounted photo measures 5 3/4 by 8 inches. The image itself is 4 by 5 1/2 inches. On the back is her hand-written name...Pearl Stevens. The photo is embossed WRIGHT, the name of the studio. Slight age toning around edge and wear to corners. Overall, Pearl maintains her star quality. With that expression, we think she grew up to be the first woman prison warden.
