This old Chinese necklace is made of carved nephrite jade beads, some facet-cut and the center one in a pineapple-cut barrel shape that measures 16mm by 20mm. The beads are between link chains made of (tested) sterling silver.
There's a pendant 'seed of life' charm hanging from the center bead. These charms were used as lucky amulets. Most likely, it was attached to a garment as a sign of wealth and good fortune. The hand-made two-sided pod is made of Chinese silver, generally 800 to 900 grade.
The silver charm actually has little beads in it so that it rattles when shaken. There are genuine turquoise and coral beads on top of the seed.
The necklace measures 18 inches around. The center jade bead and silver seed charm are 3 inches long. There's a secure lobster clasp marked 925 which is probably a replacement. We haven't polished the chain or seed pod charm. The original patina is really nice the way it is. Excellent condition. Circa 1920s/30s.
