"I didn't get here by wishing for it or hoping for it, but by working for it."
So said Estee Lauder (1906 - 2004), the queen of cosmetics and fragrances. Lauder was the only woman on TIME magazine's 1998 list of the 20 most influential business geniuses of the 20th century. She was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She also made a lot of women look and smell good.
In the early 1970s, she started putting her solid fragrances into compacts that became highly collectible. This 1991 compact issue is called GOLDEN PARROT.
The figural bird compact is yellow, blue and green enamel on goldtone metal. It's filled with Lauder's White Linen fragrance which appears to be mostly intact and still smells divine. Its original price in 1991 was $50 and in the 2002 book..'The Estee Lauder Solid Perfume Compact Collection - 1967 - 2001'...this compact is valued at $125 to $150 (page 88).
It measures 2 3/4 by 1 1/4 inches. The little product label is missing from the back. The compact is marked ESTEE LAUDER on inside lid. The compact closes securely. The enameling is excellent. No wear. And did we mention that delicious scent?
