Rarely do we get such a stunning example of French paste. This 1920s necklace and earrings set exemplifies the art of using square-cut colorless pastes set in sterling silver to create the look of faux diamonds and platinum.
The necklace has five rose-like pendants dangling from the sterling chain. Each 'flower' has the clear facet-cut, prong set square crystal in the center, surrounded by faceted marcasites. The screw-back earrings match the necklace.
The necklace measures 15 1/2 inches around by 1 3/8 inches wide at center. This puts the flowers right at the base of the throat where they are not to be missed. An extender can be added to lengthen the necklace. The earrings measure 3/4 by 1 1/4 inches. Each of the pieces is marked STERLING.
During the 1920s and early 1930s, the French and Germans excelled at designing this style of 'modern-looking' jewelry in sterling silver set with faux gemstones and marcasites. This French paste set represents the finest of this genre. Condition is excellent with all stones intact and bright.
