This mid-century pin found its way to South Florida from South Africa. And it's a nice one. Made of hand-hammered sterling silver, the Modernist shaped pin features one of the inhabitants of the land this comes from... the gazelle.
Gazelles are known as fast and graceful animals, able to run at bursts as high as 60 miles per hour. They eat easily digestible plants and leaves which may be the secret to their speed and grace.
The pin is signed on the back...W. PRETORIUS WILDTUIN. This is the Willem Pretorius Game Preserve in South Africa which opened in 1961. Someone visited the Preserve and brought home this great souvenir pin.
The pin measures 1 3/8 by 1 3/4 inches. The back has a secure rollover clasp. It's been acid tested for sterling silver. It's in excellent condition. And we've just learned that if you want to move like a gazelle, you need to eat more veggies.
