This is a rare 1968 portrait pin of Martin Luther King Jr. It was made prior to his assassination on April 4th, 1968.

The pin was made by the Fifth Avenue Vietnam Peace Parade Committee of New York for the April 27, 1968 Anti-War Rally where King was to speak. Very sadly, he did not live to add his voice to the fight for peace.

Still, Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister, activist, and political philosopher who was one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. King led a nonviolent campaign for racial justice during the civil rights movement. His contributions to the movement and to American democracy made him a very important figure. MLK helped bring about the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The pin measures 3 inches across. It's celluloid over paper on tin. Secure pin back.

The edge is marked with the Vietnam Peace Committee hallmark.

Pin is in excellent vintage condition. This pin is a piece of history.
