You gotta love a necklace that comes with some interesting history. Meet Neferneferuaten Nefertiti (c1370 – c1330 BC).
She was a queen of the 18th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt and the great royal wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten. Nefertiti and her husband were known for a religious revolution, in which they worshipped solely the sun disc, Aten, as the only god. With her husband, she reigned at what was arguably the wealthiest period of ancient Egyptian history.
She was made famous by her painted sandstone bust, now in Berlin's Neues Museum. The bust is one of the most copied works of art of ancient Egypt. It was attributed to the sculptor Thutmose, and it was found in his workshop in 1913 and became a global icon of feminine beauty and power.
This Nefertiti necklace features a fine goldtone pendant of her profile, no doubt inspired by the sculpture. The goldtone is textured and also cut in places to highlight parts of her crown and her eye. She wears a necklace decorated with little crystal rhinestones.
The pendant measures 1 3/4 inches across by 2 1/2 inches high. She's on a long thick goldtone snake chain that measures 33 inches long.
Nefertiti is unmarked but she was obviously admired by her maker.
