This vintage Navajo squash blossom like necklace is probably one of the last of its kind. Many of the Southwest turquoise mines have closed and what remains just keeps getting more rare and expensive.
These five stones were mined when turquoise was still abundant and jewelry makers could pick the best of the bunch. And this silversmith obviously did just that.
Each large stone is just perfect with a bit of matrix, gorgeous color and just enough polishing to keep its natural beauty intact.
The center stone measures approximately 25mm across by 31mm high. That's JUST the stone. The other four stones are slightly smaller but still make a big impact.
The turquoise stones are set in intricate solid sterling silver 'headdress' bezels. The center one measures 1 5/8 by 2 3/8 inches. Each headdress features etched feathers, silver wire curls and raised silver beads.
Necklace measures 21 inches around, 2 3/8 inches long at center. It weighs 126 grams (4.44 ounces).
Simple hook and eye clasp. Unmarked.
