This mid-century enamel pin comes from a very talented Norwegian family of silversmiths.
It started with Nils Erik Elvik (1853-1935) who founded the famous dynasty of silversmiths that included his sons and grandsons. They used high quality materials and made innovative handcrafted enamel and silver jewelry.
This pin is unique for its sweeping and almost 3-dimensional bow like curves. The enamel looks like it ripples though it's smooth as silk. And the color...a rare one that we call o.d. green (for olive drab). But there's nothing drab about this pin. Besides the design of it and the great color, it's got tiny silver beading around the center curve.
Pin measures 2 1/4 inches across by 1 1/4 inches high. The back has a vermeil gold plating and a secure curved ~C~ clasp.
Hallmarks are 925 S - NORWAY - STERLING - and the letter "E" in a cloud (the hallmark for both Nils Martin Elvik and Elvik & Co).
Pin weighs 13.6 grams.
Excellent vintage condition. Circa 1950s.
The Elviks have quite a family legacy that includes jewelry that's still highly collectible and appreciated.
