Lately, we've been watching a show about people mining for opals in Australia. It's riveting because of how difficult it is to dig out those incredible iridescent stones out of the earth's rocks. The most prized opal is the BLACK OPAL.
So when we came across this estate art glass pin, we got a sense of how black opal might look. This is NOT opal...it's glass but behind the modernist twisting, criss-crossing lines of whoever designed this, there's a black background with a fiery green and purple iridescence. It's subtle but it definitely catches your eye.
This pin measures 1 1/8 by 1 1/2 inches. The glass is 1/4 inch thick. The back has a secure embedded silvertone rollover clasp.
So "vintage" being pre-owned and vintage, I just noticed a tiny nick in the glass. It's on the solid black of the front. Obviously, it's hard to see which is why I just noticed it. Obviously, the price just went down. :>(
