These vintage sterling silver cufflinks come with a little story.
The swivel of each cuff link is stamped STER. PAT.2472958.
This US patent was granted in 1949 to Jacob M. Oldak, a jewelry designer from Brooklyn, New York.
Mr. Oldak was the inventor of the modern-day cuff link design and spent a fortune on legal fees trying to protect his rights to this design.
Many of the large jewelry houses used his toggle design without quoting this patent number and eventually he gave up the fight.
These cufflinks have his patent number and are marked STERLING. So these may have come from him as there's no maker's name on them.
Measure 7/8 by 1/2 inch. Swivels work smoothly.
Great job Mr. Oldak. You do deserve the credit for these attractive Modernist cufflinks.
