This vintage bead necklace features three large Faturan Bakelite beads. They're strung on a leather cord and spaced with two hand-painted wood beads.
Faturan beads (named after the inventor) were created in the early 1900s when Turkish bead makers combined the leftover carvings of amber with melted resins like Bakelite. Beads combining these two desirable elements were made up until the 1940s. These beads test strongly for Bakelite.
The large center one measures 1 1/2 by 1 1/4 inches. The other two are about 1 3/8 by 3/4 inches. The two smaller ones are older with matrix and drilled holes.
Necklace weighs 99.4 grams.
The cord measures about 22 inches around but has no clasp. May be too hard to put it on over the head so it may need some new longer cord or a clasp.
Beads are in excellent vintage condition. These are hard to find and impressive to look at.
