It's so nice to see a 'Woman in the Moon' instead of the 'Man in the Moon' which is what we mostly get. So we wondered how the 'Man in the Moon' got his territorial title.
According to Wiki...'The Man in the Moon refers to any of several pareidolic images of a human face, head or body that certain traditions recognize in the disc of the full moon. The images are based on the appearance of the dark areas (known as lunar maria) and the lighter-colored highlands (and some lowlands) of the lunar surface.'
And then too, there are several biblical origins to the Moon Man.
So this pin is a refreshing feminine goldtone metal expression of moonsville. She's got a lovely profile, decorated with a headdress of raised bead crescents. She's got cosmic charms dangling below that include a star, a shooting star, and a moon holding a planet.
Pin measures 2 inches across by 3 1/2 inches long. Back has a secure rollover clasp. Unmarked. Well made.
We'd guess this pin was designed by a woman who believes in sharing the moon.
Pin is in excellent vintage condition.
