To polish...or not to polish. THAT is the question that drives us crazy.
What do you do when you get an old piece that's so tarnished you can barely see its rare beauty beyond the tarnish? Like with this old Southwest Native American necklace.
It's made in the style of a concho belt with etched or stamped links so the effect is like a miniature concho belt. Except this goes around the neck.
Some collectors want the patina UNpolished to preserve the look of age and history. Some collectors want to wear it all polished up bright and shiny so you can really see the details of it. But then the UNpolished collectors say...if you polish it, it'll look new with no character. And the polishers respond with...'not bright...not right'.
The necklace measures 15 1/2 inches long by 1/2 inch wide. It weighs 36 grams. A short extension chain can be added for a couple of more inches.
The clasp is a secure hook and eye. We don't see any markings (through the tarnish) but this has been acid and machine tested for sterling. So we leave you with the big decision.
Necklace is in excellent vintage condition.
