NOT reproductions...these 3 original photos of James Dean were made prior to his death in 1955. These photos were done by Moss Photo Service and Moss Color Picture. These were publicity / promo photos made to send to fans.
The two 8 by 10 photos are on glossy stock...one portrait in black and white...the other in color. (It's that unique 1950s offbeat color process that you only see from that era.) The large color photo has a printed autograph that says SINCERELY, JAMES DEAN.
The smaller color photo is 5 by 7 inches, also on glossy stock. All are marked with the MOSS mark at right side.
Photos are all in excellent vintage condition. We've had these in our collection for over 50 years, since the start of our business in the late 1960s.
James Dean (1931 – 1955) was an American actor. He died way too soon in a car crash at the age of 24 and became a cultural icon of teenage disillusionment and social estrangement, as expressed in the title of his most celebrated film, Rebel Without a Cause in 1955. In it, he played troubled teenager Jim Stark.
The other two roles that defined his stardom were loner Cal Trask in East of Eden (1955) and surly ranch hand Jett Rink in Giant (1956).
After his death, Dean became the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, and remains the only actor to have had two posthumous acting nominations. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked him the 18th best male movie star of Golden Age Hollywood in AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars list.
