We never imagined we could be so impressed by a brass belt buckle. But this one puts 'brass buckles' on a very distinct elevated level.
This belt buckle is called GLORY OF THE SEAS and was made by TECH ETHER GUILD, an enigmatic belt buckle manufacturer located in Kalamazoo MI in the early 1970's through the 1980s. The company was known for the incredible quality, fine workmanship and distinctive designs they created.
These buckles were sand cast of solid red brass. They have a black oxide patina and were buffed to a high lustre with a protective lacquer finish.
This buckle shows a multi mast ship on the sea. The ship is recessed into the thick buckle center and framed in a Modernist lined scroll work.
Measures 2 3/4 inches across by 2 1/4 inches high. The belt bar opening will fit a belt that's up to 1 5/8 inches wide.
The buckle weighs 116 grams. No skimping on this one. Its weight can double as a paperweight.
Excellent vintage condition. Dated 1974.
