Book Piece Chinese 1920s Silver Enamel Filigree Hand Fan Butterfly Pin w/ Turquoise & Vermeil
There's a good reason why this Chinese silver pin is featured on the cover of the book 'Antique Enameled Jewelry' by Dale Reeves Nicholls (with slight variation in colors). It's SPECTACULAR. And there are many reasons why.
For starters, it's enamel on silver filigree and it's shaped like an ornate Chinese hand fan. There's a large colorful butterfly at the bottom with lots of smaller butterflies fluttering across the fan. They're done in cloisonne enamel. There's a row of natural turquoise blue cabochons.
The silver has a gold vermeil wash that gives it lovely highlights. The tassel at the bottom is made of 3 turquoise stone dangles. The enamel and wire work was hand-crafted by a very talented Chinese artisan, circa 1920s. Combined, all these features result in a breathtaking brooch.
The pin is marked SILVER...at least 800 and probably closer to sterling (925). It weighs 17.3 grams. The pin measures 2 3/4 inches across by about 3 inches long. It has a beautiful patina that's just too perfect to polish up.
There's a secure rollover clasp on the back. Condition is excellent. You couldn't find a finer vintage Chinese enamel pin, unless it was on the cover of a book.
