Who says cherries have to be red? Not these cherries. They're white glossy Lucite (or acrylic) mounted on olive green stems with a carved leaf topper. The cherries are set with tiny colorful crystal rhinestones along the side.
This necklace looks like 'forbidden fruit'...fruits and vegetables jewelry that was made in Austria in the 1950s. They were called "Forbidden Fruit" as named on the original cards some came on. They were made from an Acrylic plastic which goes by many trade names, the most familiar one being Lucite which was developed and registered by the DuPont Company in 1937. This cherries pendant, we believe, was made in the 1950s / '60s with the enameled white ball bead metal chain added later.
The cherry pendant measures 2 1/8 inches across by 2 inches long. The chain measures 18 inches.
Excellent vintage condition. Fruity and delightful.
