This antique Chinese tool kit was an important accessory for any tobacco or snuff user at the turn of the 19th century. The silver chatelaine includes three tools of the 'trade'...a spoon, a pick, and another spoon with a minuscule scoop.
This entire set is made of Chinese silver which is at least 800. The coin fob at the top is a '1 Mace and 4.4 Candareens' silver coin from Kiang Province. This coin was made from 1890 to 1908. It is 82% silver content.
The chatelaine measures 12 1/2 inches long by about 1 inch wide. It weighs 30 grams. Each tool is 3 1/2 inches long.
These chatelaines were worn by Chinese gentlemen from a waist belt. They would hold a variety of tools depending on the interests or needs of the person.
These interesting old Chinese chatelaines rarely come to market. This one is in excellent condition with original unpolished patina.
