This old Mexican sterling silver belt buckle has a lot of tales to tell. It's been around for decades and we can tell from the patina that this has been loved and worn and admired. All that while holding up someone's pants.
The intricate workmanship is double layered...a strong layer of silver at the bottom (back) and a great artistic display of cut-out overlay and etch work on the top (front). The top design is also enhanced with some gold plating.
Buckle measures 1 3/4 inches across by 1 7/8 inches high. It weighs 24 grams. The bar that would hold the belt measures 1 inch wide.
The back is hallmarked in a triangle - ALC - HECHO EN MEXICO - GUADALAJARA - 0925. This silversmith is listed in the Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks.
The buckle shows wear and use consistent with age but is still in excellent vintage condition.
