This antique solid bronze bird figurine was a weight used in China / Burma in the late 1800s to weigh opium. It weighs 79.5 grams.
The bird (a chicken or rooster) measures 1 1/8 inches across by 1 3/4 inches high. It has a smooth patina and stands on its own as an antique figurine. The fact that this innocent looking little bird was so commonly used in the Chinese / Asian opium trade makes it that much more interesting.
There's an opening between the bird's legs and the base which means this could be worn from a chain. Though it's a hefty little bird, this would certainly make a great conversation piece as a pendant.
A few spots of age-related verdigris / some roughness under the tailfeathers. Overall in very good antique condition.
