It was a vital accessory for the Victorian man. A watch chain. But it didn't have to hold a watch at the end. The attachment could hold a fob, a pencil, a money clip, a grooming item, or...a handy little pocket knife.
This antique watch chain is gold-filled and holds a gold-filled pocket knife that opens with two blades. One side is a regular knife blade. It's 1 3/4 inches long. The other side holds a thin instrument that we think must be pipe related...to clean out a pipe? It's about 2 inches long. Both sides are made of stainless steel. The outside of the knife is a nice bright gold on one side and a copper color on the other side where some of the goldplating has worn off. The loop at the top of the knife is marked 1/20 10K G.F. Knife measures 2 1/2 inches closed.
The link chain measures 13 inches long. The chain fob clasp is marked 1/10 14KT G.F.
The knife has some little pin dot indents (only visible in certain light). The knife side opens easily but the other half is bit hard to pull out as that hinge is very strong.
Overall in excellent antique condition. Still a fine useful chain with a functioning knife. Or add your own accessory or watch to the chain.
